Chris Gustav Halverson graduated in 1991, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he was managing editor of the Wisconsin Law Review. As a trial lawyer he represented people and companies in a diverse variety of suits including personal injury and workers compensation actions; defamation defense; legal, medical, and veterinary malpractice; and complex commercial and insurance litigation. After two decades of this, he left legal practice to teach Business Law at Gateway Technical College in southeastern Wisconsin.
Under a subsequent academic fellowship through Cardinal Stritch University, he began working with teens with emotional disabilities in Milwaukee Public Schools. Finding this sort of work incomparably fulfilling, he now assists Milwaukee high school students with developmental disabilities complete the schoolwork necessary to earn their diplomas. He became a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Writing Project Teacher Consultant in 2019. In 2022, he coauthored Wisconsin Safe-Place Law, Third Edition.
